Dr. Kirk Taylor to Speak About Ethics in Medicine and Genetic Laboratory Testing

HUMMELSTOWN, Pa., Mar. 9, 2017 – Kirk Taylor, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Prescient Medicine, will speak about genetic laboratory testing to Behavioral Health professionals at the “Ethics in Behavioral Healthcare” conference in Pittsburgh, Pa. at 11 a.m. on March 14 at the LeMont Restaurant, 1113 Grandview, Pittsburgh.

With increased scrutiny of drug testing payment mechanisms, and with an opioid epidemic taking center stage in the U.S., laboratory testing in Behavioral Health has become a hot topic. Dr. Taylor will discuss ethical concerns for medication monitoring in addiction patients as well as the new field of genetic testing and how it may apply to addiction medicine.

“Behavioral Health providers often struggle with making informed care decisions while not overtesting. There is a balance that must be achieved,” said Dr. Taylor.

A new category of medicine has emerged called “Precision Medicine” – which matches a patient’s unique genetic profile to their medical needs. As a laboratory leader in this emerging category, Prescient Medicine offers advanced genetic testing services that may help reduce the risk of adverse drug reactions, overdose and addiction.
